This means that you might not need to go through all these extra steps to get Docker working on a machine that has VMware Workstation installed (as Hyper-V and Workstation are mutually exclusive). Run over 900 virtual appliances from leading software vendors available from the VMware Solution Exchange. As of, Docker Desktop v2.3.0.1 released with WSL 2 support which makes Docker no longer dependent on the Hyper-V feature of Windows 10. With VMware Workstation Player, anyone can quickly and easily experience the benefits of preconfigured products without any installation or configuration hassles. Virtual appliances are pre-built, pre-configured and ready-to-run enterprise software applications packaged along with an operating system in a virtual machine. Evaluate: VMware Workstation Player is ideal for safely evaluating software distributed as a virtual appliance.VMware Workstation Player makes it quick and easy to take advantage of the security, flexibility, and portability of virtual machines. Run: VMware Workstation Player can be used by anyone to run virtual machines on a Windows or Linux PC.With Easy Install it’s easier than installing them directly on your PC. Create: Use VMware Workstation Player to create virtual machines with the latest 32-bit and 64-bit Windows and Linux operating systems.Use VMware Workstation Player to create, run, evaluate, and share software running in virtual machines: What can I do with VMware Workstation Player? An expired virtual machine will automatically suspend and will not restart without administrator intervention. When powered on, the virtual machine will query the server at specified time intervals, storing the current system time in the restricted virtual machine's policy file as the last trusted timestamp. Workstation 12 Player now improves the performance of encrypted VMs during suspend and resume operations with up to 3X faster performance over previous versions of Workstation.įor workers assigned to short-term projects, temporary employees, or software evaluations, Workstation Player allows you to run restricted virtual machines expire at a predefined date and time. Restricted virtual machines are the easiest way to secure corporate desktops with encryption, runtime password protection, USB access restriction, isolation between the host and guest OS, and time limitation. VMware Workstation Player has the ability to run restricted virtual machines created by VMware Workstation Pro or VMware Fusion Pro. My workaround above got me up and running though.Run Restricted and Expiring Virtual Machines a quirk of the 16.1 update, where rather than the shortcut flagging that the location is no longer valid, or a message to that effect when attempting to start the VM, or just link to it from the tabbed header bar, Workstation just hangs with the screen eventually greying out and then crashing. Then when I opened up Workstation, it opened cleanly, and I could then browse to the VM I wanted to open, and start it up with no issues whatsoever. Then I went to the library section of the Workstation, and removed every one of the client VM references - just the shortcuts NOT the files. When I opened the VM directly from Workstation, by browsing to the new location, it still hung, puzzling me further as it opened just fine in Player. Then I remembered that I'd done a bit of housekeeping and tidied up my 'Virtual Machines' folder to provide some logic, as I share them with other PCs on my network. I then tried opening one in VMware Player 16, and it opened just fine confirming the config and all the files were ok. I knew they were there, so I checked in the folder, and sure enough both were present. In the log, I could see it was trying to access the two client VMs. I found a reference in an earlier thread that identified the location of the UI logfile, so I had a rummage around in there. After checking for updates, and running a modify re-install from Windows Settings it was still the same. It appeared to be trying to load two VM clients I'd had open last time. This morning I fired it up, and it hung, with the screen greyed out. I recently upgraded to 16.1, but didn't see any issues initially. I am running Workstation Pro 16.1 on an HP EliteDesk with i7 and 16gb RAM. This may be completely unrelated, but I have seen this recently, and after some trial and error, I managed to resolve it. I get to the install screen where it says expanding files once that is complete, the os will restart and will freeze at getting devices ready 50 Anyone.
